Serena Williams wins her 5th Wimbledon title
CHICAGO (July 7, 2012)– Serena Williams, Wilson player and two-time Olympic gold medalist, claimed the coveted Wimbledon title for the fifth time in her career today, securing her 14th career Grand Slam win and 42nd career title. She defeated Agnes Radwanska6-1, 5-7,6-2 in a tough battle, with her Wilson Blade Team racket.
Williams came out strong winning the first set in just 36 minutes. After a brief rain delay, Radwanska came back winning the first game and the second set. Williams focused on her control in the third set, tying it at 2-2 and keeping the lead to win the third set and her fifth Wimbledon title.
“I was on my game today,” said Williams. “It has been a great two weeks of tennis for me. Wimbledon is so special and this win means even more being an Olympic year. I can’t wait to come back to the All England Club in a few weeks and compete in the Olympics.”
This is Williams’ 42nd WTA title and she has had a Wilson racket in hand for all her title wins. She has won more major titles in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles than any other active player, male or female.
With this win,Williams moves to no. 4 in the WTA rankings and is the highest ranked American woman on the tour.
