Wilson Players Gear Up for Indian Wells

[CHICAGO] – Wilson athletes are geared up and ready to bring the heat for this year’s the BNP Paribas Open to be held March 7-20 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. Some of the hottest players on tour right now are part of the Wilson team and they are all ready to battle in the desert heat of Indian Wells.

Rising star, Milos Ranoic, was granted a wildcard into the main draw of the BNP Paribas Open and is currently ranked No. 37 on the ATP World Tour (from No. 156 at the end of 2010). He advanced through the qualifying rounds at the Australian Open this January and proceeded to blaze into the fourth round. Just a few weeks ago the 20-year old Canadian captured his first ATP World Tour title in San Jose and reached the finals at Memphis in back to back weeks. With his recent wins, Raonic becomes the highest ranked Canadian singles player in the history of ATP Rankings since 1973.

Juan Martin Del Potro will be returning to Indian Wells after recovering from his wrist injury. He has already won his first title of the year at the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships. In the final of this 250 tournament, he defeated Janko Tipsarevic to take the title. This momentum will help prepare him for next week’s tournament.

After reaching the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, Petra Kvitova succeeded at 2011 Open GDF Suez in Paris, winning her second title of the year by defeating world #1 and 2011 Australian Open champion, Kim Clijsters in straight sets. Kvitova's ranking reaching a new high of #14 in the world as she enters this year’s BNP Paribas Open.

Flavia Pennetta will enter both singles and doubles draw at Indian Wells this year. Pennetta began her year at the 2011 Medibank International Sydney and made it to the quarterfinals. At the 2011 Australian Open, Pennetta fought her way to the fourth round of singles and capture her first career Grand Slam doubles title, partnering with Gisela Dulko and beating Victoria Azarenka and Maria Kirilenko in the final and has reached the #1 doubles ranking in the world. Recently, at the Dubai Tennis Championships, Pennetta was 11th seeded and defeated wildcard-receiver Jelena Dokić as she reached the semi-finals.
