WTA Award For Wilson Next Gen Player Laura Robson
[LONDON - Nov. 28, 2012] - Wilson Tennis Next Gen player Laura Robson has been awarded the WTA's newcomer of the year award for her performances in 2012. The WTA Newcomer of the Year award is a huge honour for the 18-year old who has had a fantastic year swinging her Wilson Blade 98 BLX to a silver medal at the London Olympics and the WTA final in Guangzhou. After rising from 131st to 53rd in the world this year, she joins an impressive list of former winners including Venus and Serena Williams.
"I looked at the list of past winners and it's certainly a very impressive line-up that includes many of my idols growing up," she said before adding; "I hope that I can go on to achieve close to what many of the past winners have achieved in their careers."
Laura is the first British tennis player to win the award since 1977. Look out for Laura swinging the new Blade 98 on Tour in 2013.
