David Dean enters his sixth season as the Valdosta State head coach. Dean's record at Valdosta now stands at 42-15. In his first season as head coach at any level, Dean's Valdosta State Blazers won the Division II National Championship in 2007. Dean is only the second coach ever to win the National Championship in his first season. In 2010, the Blazers won the Gulf South Conference Title. Dean won AFCA Regional Coach of the Year award and was the Gulf South Conference's Co-Coach of the Year in 2010. In 2007, Dean was named the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Coach of the Year for Division II and was the runner up for the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year for Division II in 2008.
