Improving Your Lie - Breaking Down a Branch

Posted May 18, 2015 in control rules advanced intermediate

If your ball comes to a rest in the trees or bushes, go ahead and play the shot, but be careful of the branches around you. Make sure not to break, bend or knock the leaves off the branch when you are taking your stance or taking your practice swing. Breaking a branch when you actually hit the shot is not permissible. If you do, you are technically “improving your lie” and will be assessed a penalty. Improving your lie refers to doing anything that increases your chances at hitting the ball better.
