Sand Shot Drill

Posted July 16, 2015 in beginner intermediate tips

Learning how to hit a sand shot can be tricky. Use this drill to help build your comfort in the bunker:

  1. Start by drawing a line in the sand, about 6-10 feet.
  2. Focus on hitting this line and accelerating through.
  3. If you hit in front of the line, you will catch ball first.
  4. If you hit behind the line, you are catching too much sand and the ball may not get out.
  5. Once you have this mastered, then put a ball in place of the line.
  6. In practicing with the golf ball, you should not make direct club contact with the ball, but instead should get enough sand to avoid contact but a limited amount to advance your ball out of the bunker.
