Kei Nishikori Defeats World #1 Djokovic in Semi-Finals
Wilson’s Kei Nishikori notched the biggest win of his career today, taking out #1 Novak Djokovic 2-6, 7-6(4), 6-0 in the Swiss Indoors Basel semi-finals. The win made Nishikori the first Japanese player to defeat a World No. 1. Nishikori became just the sixth player to win a set 6-0 against Djokovic on the ATP World Tour, and first since Mardy Fish at Indian Wells in 2010.
As a wild card entering the tournament, Nishikori worked his way through a series of tough opponents including: Andreas Seppi , Mikhail Kukushkin and finally Djokovic. He used a new racket for this tournament, trying out his secret weapon which is launching in January 2012.
The highest ranked Japanese male player, Nishikori will be attempting to win his second ATP World Tour title and first since his surprise triumph in Delray Beach in 2008. He finished runner-up to Ryan Sweeting in Houston in April and recently reached his first ATP World Tour Masters 1000 semi-final in Shanghai. He’ll play fellow Wilson player, Roger Federer in Sunday's final match.
