Game Changing Wilson NCAA Wave Indoor/Outdoor Basketball to Debut Across the Nation

Early success of Wilson Wave Game Ball drives decision to make Wilson NCAA Wave Indoor/Outdoor basketball available at retail outlets.

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS- March 4, 2008-The Wilson NCAA Wave Indoor/Outdoor basketball, and its patented Triple Threat Technology, will be available at retail outlets across the country for $40 just in time for March Madness.

When Wilson Sporting Goods Co., the maker of the Official NCAA basketball, set out to re-think the modern basketball, they asked players across the nation what they wanted in a game ball. The answers invariably focused on improving a player's grip so the ball would be easier to handle. But how does one improve a basketball without changing the size and shape of the ball itself? Wilson's expert engineers came up with a design that could revolutionize the way the game is played. The Wilson Wave's Triple Threat Technology triples the number of grooves on the modern basketball's cover in a move that players say improves shooting, dribbling and passing.

The success of the Indoor Wilson Wave Game Ball prompted the Chicago-based company to bring the Wilson NCAA Wave Indoor/Outdoor basketball to major retail outlets across the country. In early testing, 76 percent of players said they prefer the Wave's Triple Threat Technology to traditional Game Balls. State High School Associations in Arkansas, North Carolina and Mississippi have already adopted the Wave's Triple Threat Technology for official game play and more are certain to follow.

"Based on extensive player feedback, the Wilson Wave and it's Triple Threat Technology is the best performing basketball we've ever created," says Mike Kuehne, General Manager of Basketball for Wilson Sporting Goods. "Players at all positions, and especially outside shooters, love how quickly the Triple Threat technology helps their fingers fall into the grooves. The Wilson NCAA Wave Indoor/Outdoor basketball will bring breakthrough technology to outdoor courts."

The Wilson Wave's Triple Threat Technology incorporates 24 additional T3 Grooves into the usually flat panels of a standard basketball. The results are a ball with more surface area and more leverage points that help players control the ball in all aspects of the game: shooting, dribbling and passing.

Like the tournament-proven Wilson NCAA Game Ball, the Wilson NCAA Wave Indoor/Outdoor basketball features many patented technologies including a Cushion Core Technology carcass, which combines low-density sponge rubber with ultra-durable butyl rubber to provide a softer touch and feel to the ball.
