2023 Wilson Glove Day with Chicago’s New Faces

Chicago’s longtime stars and newly acquired talent arrived in Mesa, Arizona to prepare for the 2023 campaign with new Wilson A2K® and A2000® ball gloves. Ahead of a new season in the friendly confines of Chicago’s north side, #TeamWilson players like Dansby Swanson, Trey Mancini, Nico Hoerner and Nick Madrigal selected their latest Pro Stock® leather.

Dansby Swanson, Chicago’s new shortstop, visited the Wilson headquarters in Chicago to work with Master Glove Craftsman Shigeaki Aso during the offseason. His new A2000 1787 featured Royal Blue accents to match his new team, and Aso helped break it in to match his previous gamer. Swanson completed his glove’s look with framed logos, the same design he’s preferred since his college career at Vanderbilt.

After picking up his new Blonde A2000 1786, infielder Nico Hoerner commended the glove’s craftsmanship.

“This is beautiful,” Hoerner said. “It’s always nice to get your hands on a new glove.”

Outfield prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong customized a new A2000 1799 with Blonde Pro Stock leather and Red SuperSkin. After consulting with Aso, Crow-Armstrong also selected a new A2K 1810 outfield glove. The outfielder typically wears his glove with three fingers in the pinky stall, and the A2K 1810 is specifically designed to fit such players.

“You know what, I’m going to try it,” Crow-Armstrong said. “I think it fits great already. That gives me some confidence in this glove, for sure.”

Right handed pitcher Jameson Taillon, who joined Chicago in free agency, customized a pair of A2K B125 pitcher’s gloves for the 2023 season. He designed one glove with Black Pro Stock leather and another in Vintage Tan, and both gloves included a pro sleeve on the index finger.

“I learned in my younger years not to get too crazy with it. This is about as crazy as I’ll go,” Taillon said of his Black glove with Royal Blue laces.

Utility player Trey Mancini, who splits time between the corner outfield and first base, customized a Saddle Tan A2K JAB79 first base mitt and Black A2K 1799 outfield glove. To personalize his gloves, Mancini embroidered a shamrock and a set of initials on the thumb panels.

“I got a shamrock because I’m Irish and went to Notre Dame,” Mancini said. “Then T&S, Sarah is my wife, to Trey and Sarah is what that stands for.”

Outfielder Brennen Davis likes to try out new outfield models each season, frequently picking up gloves with different web styles.

“I’m looking for something that’s comfortable, something that’s going to help me make the plays I know I can make,” Davis said.

By the end of Glove Day, Davis picked up an A2K 1810, Aso’s newest outfield pattern.
