Building Matt Chapman’s 2022 A2K Game Model Baseball Glove

See what Oakland third baseman Matt Chapman loves about his latest custom Wilson A2K MC26 Game Model baseball glove.

Oakland third baseman Matt Chapman delivers game-altering defense at third base every time he steps on the diamond, and he worked with Wilson to craft an all-new A2K® MC26 GM baseball glove to help him command the infield. Chapman’s 2022 Game Model glove, a design based on the A2K 1787, comes in hot with Blonde, Black and Kelly Green Pro Stock® Select leather.

“I want to make something that is going to stand out and something that the kids are going to want to wear – something that they think is a fun glove,” Chapman said. “I know that the quality of the glove is always going to be great, so I just want to pick a cool color that’s going to represent Oakland and also a little bit of me.”

Chapman, who has used Wilson A2K baseball gloves every year since his debut season in 2017, said he likes his game model glove to match the A2K 1787, an 11.75” pattern that offers the reach he prefers at the hot corner.

“I like that it’s 11.75 inches because it makes me feel like I’m playing shortstop at third base,” Chapman said. “I get to still have a big enough glove to where it’s usable at third, but it’s small enough to where I feel like I can use my hands and make the quick transfer plays that I like to make.”

The California native has never used a glove larger than 11.75”, and he is comfortable with the glove length because he trusts his athleticism to reach hard-hit balls in the hole or down the foul line. The third baseman opted for a glove pattern with Wilson’s iconic H-Web, and the flawless Pro Stock Select leather construction delivers extreme consistency and performance.

“I’m pretty particular about my glove,” Chapman said. “The way this glove just broke in, and the way it feels on my hand, I can’t get away from it. I love it.

Each season, Chapman flashes the leather and turns in highlight reel plays that no other third baseman is capable of. To celebrate those defensive accolades, Wilson included personalized stitching on the pinky and a custom Wilson logo on the thumb. Chapman’s Game Model A2K also features a unique palm stamp of Chapman in a crouched, athletic stance, the same posture he holds before making a play at third base.

“Getting to design a glove is obviously something that’s really cool and I appreciate that Wilson lets me make my own glove every single year.”
