Wilson Staff: The World’s Most Premium Baseball Gloves

Rooted in Japanese craftsmanship, Wilson Staff baseball gloves are making their North American debut.

The Wilson Staff glove series, a longtime favorite in Japan, is making its North American debut. Wilson Master Glove Craftsman Shigeaki Aso, whose work resulted in stalwart glove models like the A2K® 1786, meticulously designed the Wilson Staff DL Infield Baseball Glove, Wilson Staff D8 Outfield Baseball Glove and Wilson Staff DP Pitcher’s Baseball Glove, engineering these models to incorporate characteristics of Japanese and American baseball.

The Gloves

Aso designed three new glove models – a pitcher’s glove, an infield glove and an outfield glove - to introduce the Wilson Staff collection to North American baseball.

Equipped with unique Hinged Cross Web, the Wilson Staff DL 11.75” Infield Baseball Glove steers the ball into the pocket to help infielders make fast transfers and throw to any base. At 11.75”, this infield model mirrors the length of popular North American patterns like the A2K 1787 and A2000 EL3.

Red SuperSkin™ finger panels complement the Black leather while reducing glove weight. Gap welting, a piece of the palm leather folded between the index and middle fingers, stabilizes the pocket, helping the glove to keep its shape on every play. Gap welting is a longtime staple in Wilson Staff gloves, and it can be found in modern North American gloves like the A2K 1785, A2K 1775 and A2K D33. This structural change counters high-stress areas of the glove to maintain pocket stability.

Carefully constructed for the pitchers who deliver dominant performances on the mound, the Wilson Staff DP 11.75” Pitcher’s Baseball Glove is fashioned with Yellow Gold Pro Stock® Select Wilson Staff leather. It’s D-shaped pocket features Double Palm Construction, allowing pitchers to form the glove to their liking. A Closed Two-Piece Web, similar to that of the A2K B2, conceals pitch grips, and the 11.75” length mirrors the A2000 CK22 used by future Hall of Fame left-handed pitcher Clayton Kershaw.

“The DP model is similar to the American B2 and CK22 models, but with a slightly different web,” Aso said. The web features Black laces, a perfect contrast of color against the Yellow Gold background.

Conscientiously designed to be lightweight and easy to handle in the outfield, the Wilson Staff D8 12.5” Outfield Baseball Glove includes premium Black Pro Stock® Select Wilson Staff leather and Navy Blue SuperSkin™, a microfiber material that reduces glove weight while improving durability. Many Japanese players prefer lightweight gloves like the D8 when manning the outfield and covering lots of ground.

“The D8 outfielder glove is 12.5”,” Aso said. “Japanese players prefer a smaller, lightweight glove.”

At 12.5”, the Wilson Staff D8 mirrors the length of North American gloves like the A2K KP92 and Mookie Betts’ A2K MB50 GM. Its Pro Laced T-Web with Royal Blue laces channels the ball into the pocket for easy transfers. Gap welting – a folded piece of the leather palm between the index and middle fingers, helps to stabilize the glove and allows players to form a deeper pocket.
