Golf Swing Tips: Why Grip Pressure Matters
Learn how to hold a golf club like a professional player. Wilson Advisory Staff Member Brandon Steele explains why your grip can make or break your swing.
Here's the deal: you might be gripping your club too tighly, and you're not alone. Lots of golfers underestimate the impact grip can have on their swing. A tight grip creates tension in the shoulders and arms that causes a stiff and uncontrolled swing. Too much grip pressure also results in the player swinging too fast and too hard.
As the club nears the ball, holding it too tightly doesn’t allow for a proper release, instead giving you an open clubface and a crooked flight path. Your grip should let the club to do the work; your hands only need to guide it to a square clubface and a straight shot.
