Wilson Serves Up Earth Day Rackets

This was the mindset for Earth Day 2022 as Wilson LABS’ designers and engineers joined forces with the innovators at Sherwin-Williams Design House to create a series of rackets that are gentler on the environment by lessening the footprint it takes to make them.

The driving force behind this reduction is Sherwin-Williams’ special waterborne paint formula that coats each classic Wilson frame. This paint starts its good work by lessening the volatile organic compounds used during production. Waterborne paints are also lower in odor, making them safer and more comfortable to work with, and are less flammable.

The benefits to waterborne paints don’t stop there. The proprietary formula from Sherwin-Williams requires less cure time in an oven when compared to previously used solvent-borne paints, which can act to lower natural gas usage and CO₂. Think less energy, more impact.

The Earth Day racket series also marks Wilson LABS’ continued collaboration with Arkema, a global leader in the creation of sustainable materials. Each racket utilizes their recycled, bio-based material on its bumpers, grommets and endcap. This material is gentler on the earth while maintaining top performance. It performs so well it is now on all Wilson in-line performance rackets.

Altogether, the Earth Day racket series works hard to put Wilson at the leading edge of adopting sustainable manufacturing practices in the sporting goods industry while fulfilling its commitment to creating a better world through sport. After the launch of the series, Wilson LABS will use the knowledge it’s garnered to affect the making off all its rackets moving forward.
