St. Louis Cardinals

One year after ranking as one of the worst defensive teams in Major League Baseball, the St. Louis Cardinals buckled down - and won their first National League Central crown since 2015.

The club led the entire National League in fielding percentage, making the fewest errors among the 15 Senior Circuit squads. St. Louis overcame a slow start and got scorching hot down the stretch, going 47-27 after the All-Star Break to power past two division foes.

All-Star shortstop Paul DeJong smacked a career-high 30 home runs to pace the St. Louis offense and led all NL shortstops with 211 putouts and 435 assists. He ranked sixth in the league in dWAR (Defensive WAR) - and played a huge part in getting the Cardinals back to the postseason.

Jose Martinez transitioned from first base to the outfield this year, deepening the Cardinals lineup in a big way. Infielder Yairo Munoz showcased his custom A2K DATDUDE up the middle alongside DeJong and Tyler O’Neill patrolled the outfield with his custom A2000 1799.

On the mound, southpaw Andrew Miller is looking for his first World Series ring in his sixth postseason run - and first with St. Louis. This year, he ranked near the league leaders with 73 appearances while averaging just under 12 strikeouts per nine. Righty John Gant won 11 games out of the pen for the Cardinals, overpowering hitters with a mid-90s fastball.

In his first full season at the helm, skipper Mike Schildt led St. Louis to the brink of the Fall Classic. But after running into a dominant Washington starting rotation, the Redbirds will have to wait for their NL-leading 12th title.
