Following their first postseason appearance since 2001, Seattle is back for more with all-new Wilson baseball gloves in 2023. Led by young superstar Julio Rodriguez, Seattle is equipped to take another step forward with all-new Wilson leather.

During the offseason, Rodriguez worked with Wilson Master Glove Craftsman Shigeaki Aso to design his new A2000 JR44 Game Model glove. The game model, based on the A2000 1810, is engineered with a modified wrist strap and pinky stall for a more secure fit in the outfield.

“Using his knowledge to help me design the glove, we came up with something really nice,” Rodriguez said. “I feel really happy about it. I can not wait to use it in the season.”

Rodriguez customized his game model glove with Blonde and Navy Blue® Pro Stock leather. A blonde ring finger contrasts with the dark shell, and Navy Blue SnakeSkin™ leather panels offer extra bite to Julio’s glove. The A2000 JR44 GM 12.75” baseball glove will be made available for purchase during the 2023 season.

“My design is going to be out there for kids,” Rodriguez said. “They’re going to have, basically, what I feel is the best. It feels really secure and really good on my hand. This glove definitely made me feel comfortable and secure back there in the outfield.”

Utility player Tommy La Stella picked up a pair of custom first base mitts for the upcoming season. La Stella, who played first base, second base and third base in 2022, worked with Aso to create a Japanese-style first base mitt. Modeled on the Wilson Staff 36, La Stella’s A2K features a Dual Post Web.

“It’s exactly what I was hoping for,” La Stella said of the A2K first base mitt. “Aso and I started working on a different palm. It’s a slightly more shock-absorbent palm in here, then he added some extra-soft double leather to the palm too so that when the ball hits in there it’s going to stick a little bit more.”

Outfielder Jarred Kelenic picked up an A2000 1799SS for 2023. The all-black design features Pro Stock® leather, Black SuperSkin™ and iconic Yellow Wilson logos. The Dual Post Web helps the glove keep its shape at full extension, and the lightweight SuperSkin repels moisture from rain and wet grass. To break in his new glove, Kelenic shapes the thumb and pinky fingers to create his preferred pocket.

“I usually flare out a little bit of both sides,” Kelenic said. “I kind of just want a square pocket. I’m pretty even on both sides, but I kind of just want it pretty symmetrical.”

Pitcher Robbie Ray, entering his second season in Seattle, customized an A200 A12 and an A2000 XLC with navy Blue Pro Stock leather, SuperSkin and Mariner Green logos.

“There’s not a lot of teams where you can get your actual team color on the gloves,” Ray said. “It’s pretty unique.”

Ray also ordered a custom A2000 Infield Trainer designed by his son, Asher.

“My son designed that himself,” Ray said while pointing to the glove’s Brick Red and Mariner Green Pro Stock leather.
