Team Wilson Hosts Minnesota Glove Day in Fort Myers

See the baseball gloves Jorge Polanco, Royce Lewis, Austin Martin and Nick Gordon picked up for 2022.

#TeamWilson stars from Minnesota celebrated the best day of spring training in Fort Myers, picking up their new A2K® and A2000® baseball gloves for 2022. Established veterans like Jorge Polanco and Luis Arraez saw their latest custom gloves for the first time, and emerging talents like Austin Martin, Royce Lewis and Nick Gordon shared what they love about their Wilson gloves.

Polanco, who designed a custom 11.75” A2000 SC1975SS with Spin Control Technology™ and SuperSnakeSkin™, described his glove as “perfect.” The thumb of his glove featured the national flag of the Dominican Republic, his home country. Polanco had “DIOS Y FAMILIA” – God and Family – embroidered on the ring finger. The infielder opted for Pro Stock® leather with Spin Control Technology™ - a patented surface texture designed to increase friction against the ball on contact.

“My old teammate, Marwin Gonzalez, he liked to do it like that,” Polanco said. “I was jealous man… He just told me, ‘Hey, you’ve got to come to Wilson.’”

Lewis, the top pick in the 2017 draft, grew up playing with A2000 gloves. The top prospect said he prefers the A2000 because it feels like an extension of his own hand, allowing him to field the ball naturally. For 2022, Lewis picked up a new 11.75” A2000 1787 with Blonde Pro Stock® leather and Copper accents.

Alex Kirilloff, who spent time at first base and in the outfield in 2021, designed a custom A2K JAB79 first base mitt and a custom A2K 1799 outfield glove for 2022. He customized both gloves with Blonde Pro Stock leather, and he incorporated Navy Blue and Red accents to reflect Minnesota’s team colors.

“The leather holds up well. I like the sturdiness,” Kirilloff said. “It comes super stiff, so I get to break it in exactly how I want it to be.”

Martin, a first round draft pick out of Vanderbilt University in 2020, designed a custom A2K 1775 for his work in the outfield. The 12.75” pattern features a Single Post web, and Martin customized his glove with Black SnakeSkin and Red Pro Stock Select leather.

“I put a little bit of pizzazz on there,” Martin said. “I like the colorways that I’ve got going on right now. It looks smooth with the red and the black.”

Nick Gordon made his big league debut in 2021, appearing at multiple positions. The utility player picked up a new 11.5” A2K 1786 for his work on the infield and a new 12.75” A2K 1799 for his time in the outfield. To break in his gloves, Gordon gets them on the field right away.

“The more I play with it, the more I play catch and take ground balls, it kind of forms to my hand,” Gordon said. “It forms to the way I like to catch the ball.”
