Wilson Omaha A2000 Baseball Gloves College World Series

As elite college baseball programs travel the country to compete for a spot in the College World Series, Wilson unveiled 10 Pro Stock® baseball gloves to celebrate college baseball’s national championship. The 10 A2000® baseball gloves – available only on Wilson.com or at The Omaha Experience in Omaha Baseball Village – feature a variety of new designs with SuperSnakeSkin™, buffed Pro Stock® leather and other materials for distinct appearances on the field.

Wilson Baseball & Softball Glove Designer and Product Line Manager Ryan Smith collaborated with Master Glove Craftsman Shigeaki Aso to create the 2023 Omaha exclusive glove collection. Smith said the design process takes place over several months.

“I try to make it the best and coolest collection of gloves we release all year,” Smith said. “Usually there are a few new things in there like colors, technology or prints. During the year we do so many things and come up with so many different ideas that I am working on or thinking about this collection all year long.”

The 2023 group includes 8 infield gloves, 1 outfield glove and 1 catcher’s mitt.

Each glove has a special story, Smith said, and he takes inspiration from artwork, natural surroundings and player feedback. When Kansas City outfielder and catcher MJ Melendez visited the Wilson Headquarters to create a new custom glove, he dreamt up something totally new with Smith.

“The Lightning print gloves were inspired by MJ Melendez,” Smith said. “He wanted lightning on his glove, and we made it happen. Not lame lightning bolts either. We put a whole storm on that glove!”

The lightning SuperSnakeSkin™ print Melendez designed with Smith appears on an A2000 1786 infield glove and A2000 1810 outfield glove. Other gloves in the collection – including the Savannah Bananas Confetti A2000 1786SS and Omaha Plaid A2000 PP05SS – use printed SuperSnakeSkin materials to elevate their appearance.

“Prints just unlock another level of customization and design,” Smith said. “Gloves can be limited because you are working with natural materials most of the time, and those have some limitations. Being able to print makes it so much more fun for a designer and can make it more personal to the player.”

Two gloves in the 2023 collection – the Villain A2000 1787 and Blue Velvet A2000 DP15 infield gloves – feature buffed Pro Stock® leather. This is the same Pro Stock® leather players love for its performance and durability. Wilson glove craftsmen apply a finishing process to the material, resulting in a surface texture that is buttery soft to the touch. Smith first introduced the material on the 2022 “Stetson” A2000 1787, an infield glove in the 2021 Omaha collection.

“I love the look!” Smith said. “It has a velvet-like texture and feel. I started it 3 years ago to try to tie into a more “Western” feel and look using Saddle Tan. That glove was so clean and well received that I just started making more and playing with more. Back when I was a kid, I always loved shoes with that soft, suede look. Now I can bring it to gloves.”
