Building a Gamer with Aubree Munro

See how USA Softball catcher Aubree Munro built her custom glove for the game’s biggest stage.

USA Softball standout catcher Aubree Munro has reached the pinnacle of fastpitch, winning two World Championships with USA Softball, two national championships during her collegiate career and playing in multiple professional leagues from the NPF to Athletes Unlimited. Over the years, Munro’s insights and collaborations with Wilson Glove Craftsmen Shigeaki Aso and Ryan Smith helped fine-tune Wilson softball catcher’s mitts. Munro and the Wilson Ball Glove team revamp her custom gloves each year, and she met virtually with Smith and other Wilson team members to design her gamer for international competition on the game’s biggest stage in the summer of 2021.

“I’m up for doing something new,” Munro said. “I just want to make sure that it’s a crisp look.”

Munro prefers the clean design of Blonde Pro Stock® Leather, and she combined elements from two of her latest custom gloves for her new gamer. Her first Game Model glove, the 2021 A2000® AM1 catcher’s mitt, features Blonde leather, a Blonde SuperSnakeSkin™ back and Red laces. Munro’s secondary glove also featured a Blonde back, and the palm boasted Sky Blue leather.

“Last year, I got the Blonde and Sky Blue fun glove,” Munro said. “I loved it. That color was really fun and new, and I got tons of compliments on it.”

Aubree Munro’s New Catcher’s Mitt

Since her custom glove with a Sky Blue palm caught so much attention at professional games and catching camps, Munro decided to incorporate the color into her new gamer. She opted for Blonde Pro Stock Leather and a Blonde SuperSkin™ back, then she tied the all-new 2022 A2000 AM1 together with Sky Blue laces.

“I really liked the SuperSnakeSkin last year,” Munro said. “I wanted to stick with SuperSkin. I just went with the more traditional one.”

To give her glove some extra pop, Munro added Red and White gradient Wilson Bold Logos with Sky Blue outlines. She personalized her glove with her number, #1, on the thumb in Sky Blue, and she added text to the palm liner inside the glove.

Innovative Spin Control Technology™

Munro’s first Game Model catcher’s mitt featured Spin Control Technology, a dimpled texture in the leather palm designed to increase friction against the ball, and she incorporated the same technology into her new gamer.

“It has helped with transfer stuff,” Munro said of the Spin Control Technology. “I’m trying to, obviously, have a quick transfer… I don’t feel like (the ball) is going crazy in my glove.”

The final 2022 A2000 AM1 catcher’s mitt features dimpled Spin Control Technology in the palm, smooth Pro Stock Leather on the back of the web and a SuperSkin back. Munro’s catcher’s mitt also includes a piece of smooth, Blonde leather on the back where she can rest her index finger outside the glove. With a combination of different materials and textures, Munro’s glove brings some new life to her preferred “crisp look.”

“I like that. I think it’s sharp,” Munro said. “I think people will like it a lot.”
