Building a Gamer with Kelsey Stewart

Learn how USA Softball infielder Kelsey Stewart built her new glove for international competition.

USA Softball infielder Kelsey Stewart loves to show off her creative genius with the Wilson custom glove builder. Stewart, who frequently designs new custom gloves for her USA Softball teammates, built the most popular fastpitch Game Model to date with her 2021 A2000® KS7 GM, a 12” glove featuring Red and White SnakeSkin™, Spin Control™ Technology and a Navy Blue Web embroidered with White stars. To build her newest custom glove for the game’s biggest international stage in 2021, Stewart joined a Zoom call with Wilson Senior Glove Designer Ryan Smith.

“I wanted to do a baby blue-ish with red,” Stewart said. “Red trim. Red laces.”

Her newest custom glove features Sky Blue Pro Stock™ Leather, and she brought a new twist to SnakeSkin for 2021.

“Can we do SnakeSkin with baby blue?” Stewart asked.

Smith made it happen, embossing the SnakeSkin texture on Sky Blue leather for Stewart’s new glove. Stewart’s gamer is the first ever A2000 or A2K® ball glove to feature SnakeSkin on Sky Blue leather.

In addition to the sharp look of Sky Blue SnakeSkin, Stewart gave the shell of her glove a unique, multi-colored design.

“So, I have an outlandish idea,” Stewart said. “You know like when you get your nails done, you do a party nail? So, can we do a party finger?”

Stewart said she often makes one fingernail different from the others when she gets her nails done, and she brought that same idea to her glove design. She made the ring finger of her glove with White SnakeSkin to stand out from the rest of the Sky Blue back.

Kelsey Stewart’s Signature Glove

Stewart gave the back of her glove another personal touch by adding her signature to the outside of the pinky. She then added White and Red gradient Wilson logos with Sky Blue outlines, and she personalized her glove with “Stewie” embroidered on the White SnakeSkin thumb in Gold stitching. The infielder used White and Red laces to tie her masterpiece together.

Stewart primarily plays third base for USA Softball, but she has made a career out of being versatile, and she built the A2000 KS7 to handle multiple positions. She was among the first players to adopt Spin Control Technology, a dimpled texture in the leather palm designed to increase friction against the ball, and she incorporated that technology in her 2022 pattern. Her game model glove features a modified X2 Web with double lacing at the base, making it perfect for infielders at second base, third base and shortstop.
