Building Mookie Betts’ Game Model A2K

Wilson Advisory Staff Member Mookie Betts took Los Angeles by storm in 2020, turning in web gem after web gem with his 2021 A2K® MB50 game model glove. Mookie’s A2K, meticulously designed by Wilson Master Craftsman Shigeaki Aso, gave Betts the tools he needed to patrol right field and devastate opposing batters on the way to his second career ring.

Mookie made all the plays in the field with his game model 12.5” A2K ball glove. Featuring White and Royal SuperSkin™ and Black Pro Stock™ Select Leather, Mookie Betts’ baseball glove was built for postseason lights. Aso fine-tuned Mookie’s game model, ensuring that it fit the outfielder’s play. Before the 2019 season, the craftsman narrowed the heel and shortened the length of an A2K 1799, creating Mookie’s MB50. Spot the difference by counting the laces along the heel.

“Every time I put the glove on, it feels the same,” Mookie said. “It’s not more broken in or not less broken in, so I know where the ball is. That’s what I like so much.”

Mookie, who began his professional career as an infielder in the minor leagues, worked with Aso to develop the 12.5” glove. Mookie prefers the shorter length of the MB50, noting that he has more control without sacrificing reach.

“I just feel like I handle a little better,” Mookie said. “I’m so used to using a little glove, you know, being in the infield and everything.”

Built with SuperSkin, Mookie’s A2K is lightweight, yet durable and prepared to handle any weather conditions.

“It’s just light,” Mookie said. “When it rains, it doesn’t sit in the leather, and I think the most important thing for me is just it doesn’t get heavy.”
